The Marr Agus Fibh Viking Re-enactment Society

Vikings. In tents.

Vikings. Fighting.

More Vikings. More Fighting.
The visit to the Gala of the Marr Agus Fibh Viking Re-enactment Society was undoubtably the highlight of many peoples' day. The vikings had visited us earlier in the year, when an "advance raiding party" had visited to school to give the kids a quick introduction to all things vikingy and to help inspire the Gala picture competition.
When they returned for the Gala there were many more of them, and they set up a tented encampment at the top of the field. There they engaged in many typical domestic viking activities, such as talking, cooking, eating and sharpening swords, giving a glimpse of what viking life was like all those years ago.
Later on in the afternoon they donned their armour and sallied forth to the "combat arena", where they engaged in another traditional viking activity - shouting a lot and hitting each other with swords, spears and axes.
They put on a thrilling combat display which left the ring strewn with mangled corpses, but they all recovered remarkably quickly and were soon battling the Gentlemen of the Village in a tug of war.
Our sincerest thanks go out to all the vikings, some of whom had travelled from as far away as Dumfries, Durham and Kent to be with us, for the fantastic contribution they made to our Gala, and particularly to Vicki the Viking, who gladly took on the unenviable task of judging the Veggie Viking competition.
