The Creel Inn Golf Outing 2008 was held at Glenisla Golf Course in Alyth with a good healthy (don't look at the legs !!!!!) turnout of 13 budding enthusiasts descending on the picturesque setting ready to do battle. As ever the allotted handicaps were bound to come under scrutiny with handicap secretary Denis Garden sure to come in for some stick if a sombrero wearing bandit were to lift the trophy yet again.

A couple of previous winners, Argo and Lindsay were suitably "cut" so there would be no chance of a repeat victory which was a relief to everyone as gloating is none to familiar to this pair. As the round got under way, there were murmurs spreading across the teams that Argo was "burning up" the course once again but this time it was the junior version, his son Neil who ended up carding a nett 62 an astonishing 8 under par. Surely this was an unassailable lead which no-one could match. Could Denis's reign as handicap secretary be under threat with the emergence of another bandit.

Just as young Neil was rubbing his hands with glee and anticipating the grand prize, the smile was wiped off his face when young David Garden emerged from the eighteenth green with an astonishing nett 60 which was surely worthy of a giant "SOMBRERO".

Joking apart these youngsters totally upstaged their elders and played some magnificent golf on the day but Denis can hang his head in shame for the handicaps once again least of all his own son!!. The usual suspects were to battle out the scratch prize and with Neil F and Angus playing together, rivalry was sure to be intense. In the end the scores were tied with only a better inward nine by Angus taking first place by one shot.

The longest drive was one by Keith who, we're told, hit a Boomer right up the middle although rumour has it that everyone else missed the fairway (only joking Keith, well done) The nearest the pin was won by Angus who's tee shot at the 17th within 35ft was not challenged by anyone else all afternoon.

Lets look forward to next year ..........!!
