Ferrari Enter Catterline Carties

Evidence of Catterline's growing reputation on the world soapbox cartie stage was dramatically demonstrated today with the announcement that world famous racing car manufacturers Ferrari will be entering a team in this year's Catterline Cartie Challenge.

They have been keeping a close eye on developments in soapbox design and have seen the recent successes of teams such as Lotus and Honda in other events. A spokesman said "We have noted with interest the improvements that some of our rivals have achieved in handling and aerodynamics, not to mention the increased bravery of their drivers, and we attribute this directly to their involvement in events such as the Cadwell Park Gravity Festival, the Belchford Downhill Challenge and the Goodwood Festival of Speed. We have decided to compete at Catterline in order to make sure we develop our skills in all areas of our sport."

Cartie Challenge Fills Up in Record Time

The 25th entry for the 2008 Catterline Cartie Challenge arrived his afternoon, which means that the official limit has now been reached and any further entries will go on the reserve list in case any places become available between now and the 14th June. There has been far more interest in the Cartie Challenge than in previous years and the places have been snapped up much quicker - this time last year we had just 10 confirmed teams, but we now have a record number of entries in just 2 months.

If you were hoping to take part but did not submit your entry in time, please send one in anyway but without the fee. We'll put you on the reserve list and will be in touch if any places become available, and we will also get in touch with you next year to give you an advanced reminder.

The 2008 Cartie Challenge promises to be a great weekend. The strong local feel of the event remains as nearly all of last year's teams will be taking part again, but there are also several teams that will be running at Catterline for the very first time - some travelling hundreds of miles to take part.

2008 Cartie Challenge Entries Open

Entries for the 2008 Catterline Cartie Challenge are now open to new teams. You can enter online or download the entry forms from here. Last year's teams got a head start and over half ot the places have already been snapped up, and there are now just 5 3 places left. Places will be allocated on a "first come first served" basis, so enter online or download the entry form and get it to us as soon as you can to avoid disappointment.

As with last year, we have a limit of 25 carties, and places will be allocated on a strictly "first come first served" basis, so get your entry forms in as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Entry forms will be on general release from the start of February and will be available for download from this site.

New Rules for Catterline Carties 08

Rule changes mean that this kind of cobblers is now outlawed

Preparations for the 2008 Catterline Cartie Challenge have begun with the now traditional tinkering with the rules. The full rules can be seen here, but in summary they are;

Definition of "load bearing wheels" clarified as "at least 10% and no more than 50% of the cartie's unladen weight". This is known as "Jim's Rule".
Start rules adapted to make full use of the false start detector. Full two person running push starts now allowed, but pushers must wear protective clothing as the start area is rough and quite steep.

Entries for the 2008 Catterline Cartie Challenge will open in January. As with last year, there will be a limit of 25 carties and places will be allocated on a "first-come-first-served" basis. Teams that took part in 2007 will get advance notice so they can guarantee their place by booking before the entries go on general release. Don't worry if you've not taken part before, however, as there will definately be places available for new teams, and if you get your entry in promptly you should get a place. If you want to be informed kept up to date with developments for Catterline Carties 08, and receive notification when entries are open, register with our mailing list by sending a blank email to carties2008-subscribe@yahoogroups.co.uk.

The 2008 Catterline Cartie Challenge will take place on 14th/15th June. Entries forms will be available in early January for those who took part last year, and mid January for everyone else. We are limited to 25 carties and places will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis, so if you want to take part you will need to get your entry in as soon as possible to avoid being disappointed. "Once a Fortnight" Cleans Up

Team Bitter and Twisted successfully defended their title at SCARE 2007, with Callum Marshall piloting "Once a Fortnight" to victory for the second year. Two runs at 27 seconds and a final run of 24 seconds meant he lifted both the Fastest Run and the Best Team trophies. Team Weasel's Brendan Hall won the junior championship driving Maniac 1.

Get ready to be SCARED!

Closing date for the Stonehaven Carties (SCARE) is fast approaching, although there are still some places left. If you want to take part but have not entered yet, go to the SCARE web site and download an entry form.

The event is on Sunday 9th September at Mineralwell Park, but carties need to be ready for scrutineering 2 weeks before that on Sunday August 26th.

The rules are similar to those used at Catterline, with the same requirement for effective brakes and steering, so any of the machines that ran at Catterline will be eligible to take part at Stonehaven. SCARE also has a junior section, so there is a chance for younger drivers to have a go.
